Our Station
The Robert E. Sutton Fire and Rescue Station is located on Route 15 across from Saint Michael's south entrance, in the same building as Public Safety. The station houses two engines, a utility truck and two ambulances. It contains two apparatus bays as well as a day room, sleeping, training, study, office, and storage facilities. Completed in 2005, this station replaced and combined the old fire station - a converted gas station on North Campus - and the old rescue station - previously located behind Salmon Hall.
The Fire Apparatus Bay houses two engines, a service truck shared by both units, and over 30 gear lockers in addition to the fire pole.
The Rescue Apparatus Bay houses two ambulances and the department's report and radio charting room.
Fire and Rescue shares the building with Saint Michael's Campus Public Safety, located inside the front entrance. "Tango," the dispatch center, is responsible for both Public Safety, Fire, and Rescue calls. Some members train to become dispatchers when they are not on duty.
Next to Tango is the Training Room, equipped with a projector and multiple white boards to facilitate the use of technology in classroom trainings.
Behind the "Authorized Personnel Only" door are two offices, one for each unit. In these offices, the respective unit Chiefs have a quiet place to complete department-related administrative work.
On the second floor, there are five bunk rooms with a total of 14 beds. These areas are for on-duty members to sleep, relax, or study. This hallway also houses one men's and one women's bathroom, each complete with a full shower, and an office for the unit officers to complete administrative work.
The Ready Room is an area for on-duty members to relax between calls. It features a sectional couch, a large flat-screen TV, board games, and a computer.
The station is also equipped with a full kitchen, where the duty crew often cooks and enjoys meals together.
