About Us

About SMFR

Fire and Rescue members learn real life skills that put them at an advantage in many of life’s circumstances. As students of Saint Michael’s College and members of a respected community service program, these volunteers discover that their role serves many purposes. On a community level, members have the chance to assist those in need and give back to their surrounding communities.

The students play a vital role in saving lives and protecting property, all while developing a lifelong commitment to civic responsibility. On a personal level, these students develop an extraordinary set of values. Their experience gives profound depth and personal enrichment to their lives and they gain a deeper respect for life and service. They also discover friendships forged in rigorous training and demanding circumstances that last a lifetime.

Fire and Rescue volunteers acquire skills that will help them in the professional world. Students learn organizational skills that are essential in any profession. The students must master time management, teamwork, performance under pressure, and communication skills that align them for success in careers such as medicine, health care, business and many other professional fields.

Fire and Rescue also broadens the academic experience of these student volunteers. They use knowledge gathered from their traditional academic setting as well as practical skills as they tackle different challenges.

IN AN EMERGENCY

In the event of an emergency, remain calm. Call 911 and be ready to provide a few important pieces of information:
  •  The address of the emergency.
  •  Exactly what happened.
  •  How many people are hurt.

Follow all of the dispatcher's instructions, and do not hang up until you have been told to do so.
