TYPES OF MEMBERSHIPProspective members must begin their career at SMFR with a semester-long rookie period, during which time they will learn the basics of their chosen unit and may observe but not run active duty. After this period they may be voted to Probationary membership, when they will officially become a member of the department. PROBATIONARY MEMBERA Probationary member is eligible for Senior membership at the conclusion of a four month active period, providing s/he has met the requirements for Senior membership of the respective unit. An individual cannot be a probationary member on both units at the same time.
SENIOR MEMBERA Senior member is any member who has fulfilled the requirements for senior membership and has served a minimum of four months as a Probationary member and has received the confirmation of the voting membership of the respective unit. A senior member may hold an office.
